An unfortunate truth about education in the United States is that children who do not learn to read struggle in school, and statistically they rarely succeed in the workplace.  There is broad and growing recognition that the American educational system is failing to provide an adequate literacy education to children in high-poverty, high-minority districts, and that this failure jeopardizes our country’s future economic health and national security. 

 

In collaboration with the Energy and Sciences Education Initiative, a national nonprofit, the My Three Sisters Literacy Initiative is committed to creating a culture of reading for children by providing inspiring books to underfunded schools, libraries, and literacy programs across the United States, especially those serving disadvantaged children. We are also dedicated to improving student reading scores, and promoting effective, evidence-based practices for teaching reading and writing.

 

The My Three Sisters Literacy Initiative will strive to:

 

• Support education and literacy among girls in challenged regions.

• Enhance preschool education in low-income neighborhood.

• Develop prep programs that foster academic success for individuals hailing from underserved communities.

• Cultivate volunteer-based programs that aim to cultivate literacy among low-income children.

• Encourage the facilitation of family literacy practices.

 

We always accept new and gently-used books throughout the year. Our instruction is also continously in need of new and used reading devices (e.g., iPads, iPods, Nooks and Kindles) to assist in reading development.
